Getting Started with Snoopi
Get up and running with Snoopi in just a few minutes. This guide will walk you through downloading the app, setting up your OpenAI API key, and using Snoopi's core features.
Quick Start
Follow these three simple steps to start using Snoopi:
Download Snoopi
Request beta access to get the native macOS application. We'll send installation instructions once approved.

Snoopi uses your own OpenAI API key, giving you full control and transparency.
- Visit platform.openai.com
- Sign up or log in to your account
- Add a payment method (you'll only pay for what you use)
- Navigate to API Keys and create a new secret key
- Copy your API key (you won't be able to see it again)
💡 Tip: OpenAI offers $5 in free credits for new accounts, which is enough for many hours of use.
Start Using Snoopi
Launch Snoopi and enter your API key in Settings. You're ready to go!
- Open Snoopi from your Applications folder
- Click on Settings (gear icon)
- Paste your OpenAI API key
- Click Save
- Start tracking your activity or join a meeting!

Troubleshooting
Having issues? Here are solutions to common problems:
API Key Issues
- Invalid API key error: Make sure you copied the entire key from OpenAI and there are no extra spaces
- Insufficient quota: Add a payment method to your OpenAI account or check your usage limits
- Rate limit errors: You may be making too many requests. Wait a minute and try again
Audio Issues
- No transcription: Make sure you've granted microphone permissions to Snoopi in System Settings → Privacy & Security
- Poor transcription quality: Ensure your microphone is working and positioned properly
Activity Tracking Issues
- Apps not detected: Grant accessibility permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Inaccurate categorization: The AI learns over time. You can also provide feedback from Snoopi's separate realtime review window to improve categorization
- Too many review prompts: Snoopi now reuses a single feedback window instead of opening a stack of popups, so if a prompt is already open just return to that window
